Finally got around to posting up the sapasui video.
I love how this recipe is so versatile, and I've seen and eaten so many variations of this.
Even though some people turn their noses up at it, I still like using frozen veges, probably because of all the pretty colours. However, sometime in the future, I'll post recipes for chicken sapasui (my sister cooks a version with chicken on the bone) and the beloved pisupo (canned corned beef) sapasui, and I'll try to use some fresh veges in those.
I love this blogging business. Gives me a really good excuse to make heaps of Samoan food. Oh yeah, and EAT it too!

i'm FINALLY going to try your recipe for sapasui! i've made it a few times but without a recipe, so i'm sure this time it'll be just right!:) thanks for helping me in my kitchen:)

ReplyDeletehi! the sapasui was a hit! i even convinced my sisters and uncle to forgo sushi and come over to my house for sapasui:) they all liked it and my kids and husband all said it was delicious! thanks so much for your help...i'm becoming more and more confident in my culinary skills thanks to you!:)
ReplyDeleteThat's so great to hear! Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has a slight variation to the making of sapasui..from what I remember, when soaking your bean vermicelli we soaked it with chicken stock, the stock is made from the pot of boiled chicken. We removed the chicken and placed it in the oven to be roasted. The meat is fried in peanut oil and seasoned with the garlic, ginger, chopped onions and soy sauce. Then once the meat is cooked and the vermicelli soaked all the stock up it is placed into the meat and finished the same way as your video. Hey, love the blog keep it going..Samoans in the Tri-State
ReplyDeleteYou're so right...I have four sisters and we all make it differently...I love your variation and will try it some day...thanks so much for sharing!

ReplyDeletehi panipopo.. i must first tell you "YOU ARE AN ANGEL" (if you haven't heard it enough :)) i live in Georgia and there's no samoan food around here and no other samoans nearby for me to asiasi to their kitchens so i had no choice but to cook/bake to satisfy my cravings. i asked mum and nana for some of our favorite recipes and they could only give them in the "samoan fua" (add a little bit of this and when it's ready, a little bit of that-how much is a 'little bit'? lol) anyways.. long story short.. i found YOU and i immediately fell in love with panipopos blog. it got me angry coz i saw ALL THIS WORKS OF WONDERS (recipes) and wanted to try them all at once.. (you can tell i've been STARVING from our island bests since moving here a couple of years ago. So tell you what? i've tried almost everything that's on here.. and i got home after work lastnight at 11:30pm and craved SAPASUI.. yes.. i had dinner at around midnight (lol) and i'm heating it up again for breakfast, lunch and dinner today (if there's gonna be any left by dinner time) Panipopo YOU ARE AN ANGEL and i THANK YOU you for sharing. coz mostof our people either cook by taste/looks (and can never give precise measurements) or are too aiu to share. (sad face) but i don't care anymore now coz i've FOUND YOU.. :) thanks a million!! (it's sapasui time--YUMM YUMM)
ReplyDeleteHi! I was curious if you had a separate recipe for pisupo? Also, does the corned beef have to be canned, or can I make my own fresh and use that? Thanks for posting all this yummy stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kristin and thanks for your question. Samoans don't make their own corned beef. We either buy the canned or preserved kind. The one we use for sapasui should be canned. Hope your sapasui works out!
DeleteDo you have measurements for this recipe, can't find the written recipe for sapasui
ReplyDeleteIs it the same concept with canned corn beef?
ReplyDeleteHey panipopo whats that juice you put in before water and soy sauce please ?
